On Day 2 of the 1st test clash, Indian pacers remained successful in setting the stage with a magnificent exhibition of swing bowling as South Africa suffered an unexpected collapse on Thursday evening.
India, resuming with their overnight score of 255 for 5, were bundled out for 280 in their first innings but fought back brilliantly to leave the hosts at 213 for six at stumps.
South Africa were cruising along comfortably at 130 for one before the Indian pacers created disaster to completely change the face of the game. The wrecker-in-chief Ishant Sharma (3 for 64) came with a fiery spell, dismissing Hashim Amla (36) and Jacques Kallis (0) off consecutive deliveries before Zaheer Khan got rid of captain Graeme Smith (68).
However, the match became evenly poised due to a much required stand of 67 runs between Vernon Philander and Faf du Plessis after the Indian seamers blew away their middle order. The hosts will look to get as close to the Indian total of 1st innings. India on the other hand will want to create some disturbance into the tail and gain some lead. Still the locals trail India by 67 runs and would be looking to continue their partnership and get as close to the Indian total as possible.
