San Gabriel Mission Playhouse (San Gabriel, CA)
The mighty Wurlitzer sounds even mightier when Mark Herman is at the console. The youngest person ever to be named “Organist of the Year” by the American Theatre Organ Society comes to the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse to play a concert of music from the golden age of American songwriting. Joined by guest artist and popular vocalist Anthony Snitker, Herman will play songs from the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s on the Playhouse’s fabled Wurlitzer theater pipe organ, itself more than 80 years old. Featuring the music of George Gershwin, Harry Warren, Cole Porter and many others, the concert will showcase the organ’s vintage sound as well as Snitker’s authentic and riveting interpretations of the 20th century’s greatest compositions.
