Cinema Paradiso is the charming tale of a young boy’s lifelong love affair with the movies. Set in a small Italian village, the film follows Salvatore, who escapes from everyday life into the flickering images of the Cinema Paradiso. When the projectionist, Alfredo, agrees to teach Salvatore his trade, a deep friendship is born. After an ill-fated first love leaves him brokenhearted, Salvatore leaves the village and pursues his dream of making movies of his own. 30 years later, he receives a message that brings him back home to find the beautiful, secret discovery that Alfredo left behind for his old friend. Winner of the 1989 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, Cinema Paradiso is widely considered to be a modern classic. It’s famous for both its beautiful score by Ennio Morricone and his son Andrea, and for its climactic scene, which received the highest form of tribute: a Simpsons parody.
