Valley Performing Arts Center – Great Hall (Northridge, CA)

Two innovative jazz trios share the bill in this exciting Valley Performing Arts Center concert. Comprised of the Grammy-nominated Brad Mehldau on piano (famed for his innovative “single-hands” technique), Jeff Ballard on drums and Larry Grenadier on bass, the Brad Mehldau Trio has gained worldwide acclaim, performing at top jazz festivals including the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival. They’re joined by the Bad Plus, who’ve gained a reputation for a fearless mix of improvisational jazz and an indie-rock ethos. Together now for more than a decade, bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson and drummer David King are also known for their adventurous reworkings of pop, classical and country tunes ranging from Ornette Coleman to Black Sabbath to Nirvana.
