Canadian police have announced to have laid terrorism-related charges against 15-year-old youth on Wednesday, accusing the teenager to have committed a robbery “for the benefit, or at the direction, of a terrorist group.” According to the official statement issued by The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the teenager allegedly planned to leave Canada to join “terrorist activity abroad.” The teenager, whose identity is being kept a secret, appeared in a Montreal court on Wednesday.

The officer in charge of RCMP Federal Policing Operations, Assistant Commissioner James Malizia, mentioned in a press release that “the RCMP is relentless in its pursuit of those who would seek to participate in terrorist activity.” Police has refrained from discussing the grounds for laying the charges since the teenager is underage and the investigation is ongoing. Furthermore, police also did not name the group to which the teenager is suspected to affiliation with.

Back in October, two Canadian soldiers were killed during attacks by suspected jihadist sympathizers in separate incidents near Montreal and Ottawa. One of the attacker launched an attack on Parliament Hill, although both were shot dead by security officers. The attacks took place soon after Canada announced to send warplanes to the Middle East to take part in U.S.-led air strikes against Islamic State militants in Iraq. Canadian officials have already announced to be keeping track of 93 people considered high-risk travelers and feared to leave the country to join militant groups or mount attacks in Canada. The RCMP confirmed that majority of these suspects are Canadian citizens.
