About Ali

On March 9th 2014, Toronto-based freelance photojournalist Ali Mustafa was killed in an aerial bombing carried out by the Assad government in Syria along with seven other civilians. Ali is joined by a long list of journalists who have been killed on the job in Syria and in other conflict zones around the world. Freelancers are especially vulnerable to these kinds of dangerous conditions, lacking the institutional support and networks of more established journalists.
