Long Beach Playhouse – Studio Theatre (Long Beach, CA)
A sophisticated romantic comedy, a provocative drama and a Pulitzer-winning solo show, each staged in hour-long performances, compete to move on to a regional community-theater competition at Long Beach Playhouse’s AACTFest 2015. Poway’s PowPac offers up I Do, I Do, I Do, a romcom about a woman who finds herself engaged to three different men. Escondido’s Patio Playhouse presents Gidion’s Knot, which finds a grieving mother and a teacher trying to untangle a school-based tragedy, and I Am My Own Wife from San Diego’s New Group West is a solo show based on the amazing true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a transgender German who managed to live openly as a woman under the noses of both the Nazis and Communists. Doug Wright (Quills) wrote this Pulitzer Prize-winning piece, which also scored a Tony for Best Play.
