The Hollywood Palladium (Hollywood, CA)
Zach Condon’s Brooklyn-based band Beirut stormed the indie rock scene with the cinematic, Balkan-influenced brass of their 2006 debut Gulag Orkestar, which featured the frontman playing everything from trumpet to flugelhorn to ukulele to organ. The band went on to release albums with inspirations as diverse as the sounds of Oaxaca, Mexico and French singers like Serge Gainsbourg. Now, the celebrated baroque pop act files into the Hollywood Palladium in support of their fifth album No, No, No, a critically-praised return after their four-year hiatus. You’ll hear new, pared-down tracks like the album’s buoyant breakout single “Gibraltar,” as well as layered, intricately-crafted gems from earlier releases. Joining Beirut for this two-night L.A. outing is local singer-songwriter Julia Holter, who’s poured her lush, gauzy voice into her new avant-pop album Have You in My Wilderness.
