WES IDPs Settling In Yei In Dire Need Of Humanitarian Support

Internal displaced persons (IDPs) who fled Mundiri and Maridi towns to Yei Municipality following rampant insecurity have not yet received any assistance from any humanitarian organisation in the area.

 The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission’s Coordinator for Yei River County and Municipality, Archangel Sebit Manyang that the over 1,154 IDPs mainly women and children are still settling in the church and depending on their relatives and friends for all their basic necessities.

“So far there is no intervention as yet, the issue of intervention is in process” he said “according to information we get, they are still surviving with their relatives and friends who are within and the little amount that they might have”.

He added that the IDPs are sharing the same health facility and water sources with the host community of Yei Municipality.

The Coordinator calls on the Humanitarian Organisations to speed up and help save the stranded IDPs in the County.

“I appeal to the partners to speed up quickly so that we are able to give support to this IDPs because time is running and since they came we have not given them support to rescue this situation” said Archangelo.

According to Archangel more IDPs are said to be on the way heading to the Municipality.
