JUBA, 18 November 2015 [Gurtong]- “I would like to take this important moment to assure you in this August House once again as your president that I am ready to implement the agreement and I call upon you all as the representative of our people to cooperate and join hands with me in the implementation of the agreement in the interest of our people and our beloved country.”
President Kiir spelled out to the parliamentarians that, as they prepare for the establishment of the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU) they, should note that, the government’s immediate priorities are establishment of the Permanent Cease fire and the Transitional Security Arrangement (PCTSA).
“We must stop more bloodshed and destruction in our country. I believe we are all morally and lawfully obligated to do the right things to our people instead of causing them more harm and suffering”. The President added.
Kiir also said that his governments will begin rehabilitation and renovations of physical infrastructures in the war affected areas where schools and hospitals were destroyed.
“With this agreement, we must redouble our effort to put the country back to normalcy as soon as possible and deliver services to the people this is what our people want from us and we must be ready and committed fully to meet their expectations” Kiir said .
President Kiir told the members of the August house that, the government will be hosting the IGAD summit in Juba in the next few days.
“This IGAD summit will also involve the inauguration of the office of the joint monitoring and evaluation commission (JMEC).
The government is expecting the arrival of the advance team of the SPLM/A-IO and the Former Detainees as a measure of trust and confidence building among themselves after two years of conflict
and hostilities since December 15th, 2013.
Dr. Riek Machar Teny, leader of the SPLM-IO, Pagan Amum Okiech for Former Detainees and other stakeholders signed the agreement on August 17th in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia while President Kiir signed his part of the same agreement on the 26th of August in Juba.
The two rivals are now on the verge of shifting the peace implementation process from Addis Ababa to Juba in the Republic of South Sudan.
