Toronto Nepali Film Festival (TNFF) announces its 7th annual festival program to be held on Saturday, March 19 and 20, 2016 in Toronto. The two-day festival will take place at Innis Town Hall, University of Toronto and Noel Ryan Auditorium at the Central Library in Missassauga Showcasing films pertaining to Nepal or Nepalis or by Nepalis, TNFF aims to bring distinctive Nepal-related narratives to Toronto’s cultural landscape. This year’s festival was programmed by Toronto-based Nepali visual artist Surendra Lawoti.

This year’s festival program was selected from a pool of seventy-five films from Nepal, Canada, India, Bangaladesh, US, France, Spain and UK. The program consist of shorts, documentaries, fiction and feature length films. The eleven selected films include:

Bhagyale Bachekaharu (Nepal Earthquake: Heroes, Survivors and Miracles) by Ganesh Panday

Butte Jama (Striped Skirt) by Kala Sangroula

Boy Across My Window by Kesang Tseten

Castaway Man also by Kesang Tseten

Chhora (Son) by Subarna Thapa

Drawing the Tiger by Amy Benson, Ramyata Limbu and Scott Squire

Gaantho by Saayad Ashok

Laaz (The Shame) by Sushan Prajapati

Maccha Ko Sapana (Gills and Fins) by Sanjay Chaulagain

Tears Alive by Padam Subba and Dipendra Lama

The Dishwasher by Rajendra Thakurathi

All the selected films for TNFF 2016 will have subtitles in English. The films portray stories of Nepali people from different regions in Nepal and also from the diaspora. The program will include a documentary featuring miracle survivals from the recent devastating twin earthquakes in Nepal. It will include a short about a young girl’s wish to wear a striped skirt. Another feature length documentary will portray a dream of a family that gets suddenly shattered. The program’s power lies in the ability to beautifully weave together joy,humor and loss in lives of the characters portrayed in the films. TNFF is thrilled to bring another festival of Nepali films with something for all.
