Background:

EPS Child Protection Section has charged a 24-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault of a 10-year-old boy.

On Tuesday, July 26, at approximately 12 noon, a 10-year-old boy got off an ETS bus by Riverbend Square and was approached by a man who also got off the same bus. The man allegedly took the boy by the arm and led him to behind a building, asking the boy to spend time with him. Once behind the building, the boy was allegedly sexually assaulted and then asked to undress. The man then allegedly proceeded to take photos of the boy with his cell phone. While this was occurring, a driver making a delivery at the mall observed the incident and intervened. The boy pointed out the suspect, who had already fled on foot, and the driver proceeded to chase after the man. The suspect was wrestled to the ground three blocks later and held for police.

Detectives interviewed the boy at the Zebra Centre and the following charges have been laid:

Darryl Magloire Grandjambe, a resident of Edmonton, is charged with kidnapping, sexual interference and sexual assault.

More charges are pending as the investigation continues.
