Teacher in Surrey Indicted with Drug Trafficking Charges

A substitute teacher of Surrey has been charged with drug trafficking charges after police officers witnessed him during a drug deal near the vicinity of an elementary school in Vancouver. 41-years-old Eugenio Alfonso Bahamonde was indicted with charges of trafficking a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Richmond RCMP officers claim that they were investigating a case in Vancouver on Nov. 7,when they witnessed a vehicle stop by suspiciously, driver of which appeared to be making a drug deal with the pedestrian. Officers also claim that the driver was smoking marijuana at the time as well. Later, RCMP officers busted the vehicle in a nearby parking lot, where its driver was arrested and issued a 24-hour driving prohibition. Richmond RCMP news release narrates that soon after, a search confirmed the presence of marijuana and “evidence of drug trafficking.” Thereafter it was revealed, once the arrest was made, that the suspect that is a teacher. Bahamonde is scheduled to appear before court on Jan. 16 in Vancouver.

The spokesperson of Surrey School District, Doug Strachan, mentioned that license of Bahamonde has been suspended because of the charges laid against him. He further added that as of Friday morning, he does not have any information regarding Bahamonde’s background with the district. On the other hand, the website of B.C. Teacher Regulation Branch, displayed a valid teaching certificate for employment in B.C. kindergarten to Grade 12 public and independent schools in the name of Bahamonde, which is set to expire June 30, 2013.
