China’s Wang Zhengming proved his elevated craft on court and made his home fans cheerful by reaching into Men’s Singles quarter-final after defeating Malaysia’s Wei Feng Chong in an epic round-of-16 clash at the Li Ning China Masters 2012 at Changzhou, China, on Thursday, September 13 with 19-21, 23-21 and 21-10 score on the board.

India’s R.M.V. Gurusaidutt beat compatriot Parupalli Kashyap to surge ahead in the tournament. Gurusaidutt, ranked 55th, got past his fellow Hyderabadi 21-16, 18-21, 21-4 in a men’s singles second round match lasting a little more than an hour.

 Ajay Jayaram, the next best ranked Indian after Kashyap, trounced Zi Liang Derek Wong of Hong Kong in straight games 21-17, 21-9.

National champion Sourabh Varma joined his senior pros in the quarterfinals with a convincing 21-12, 21-16 victory over Jen Hao Hsu of Chinese Taipei. Varma will square up against Jayaram in the last eight clash.

China’s talented shuttler Jiang Yanjiao proved her mettle on court and stormed into Women’s Singles quarter-final after defeating Eriko Hirose of Japan in round-of-16 showdown in straight sets with a stunning difference of 21-12 and 21-11.

Japan’s talented female player Minatsu Mitani showed her remarkable craft on court and remained successful in securing her place in Women’s Singles quarter-final after creating the biggest upset of the tournament as she outplayed her higher ranked local rival Wang Shixian in second round with an overall margin of 21-13 and 21-18.

Rising Indian woman shuttler PV Sindhu rallied to stun eighth seed Porntip Buranaprasertsuk. World No.24 Sindhu, the lone Indian woman in fray at the event, won 10-21, 21-7, 21-19, in a 47-minute contest against the world number 14 Thai. She will now face second seed Li Xuerui of China in the last-eight stage on Friday.
