The federal race for Liberal leadership has begun today with an unusual situation of having an obvious favorite contender as Justin Trudeau.

Many party insiders are concerned that if there is no opposition against Mr. Trudeau or he does not get to compete with someone, the race might have to finish before even getting started. Majority claims that having an unchallenged leader is not only bad for the party, but the country as well. A veteran political strategist, Warren Kinsella, asserted that “It’s just boring,” that “guys like you don’t want to cover it so much, fundraising is affected, membership levels are affected, you know, having that healthy clash of ideas and policies and priorities, that brings people out.”

Kinsella had worked tirelessly during the campaigns of former Prime Minister Jean Chretien and Dalton McGuinty, and now she is let down as the outgoing Ontario Premier decided against giving Justin a run for his money. Kinsella stated that “Trudeau himself has said, and he’s absolutely right, it can’t be a coronation.  We need the exchange of ideas and all those good things that a leadership race gives you and with McGuinty not in it, it now is listing towards a coronation.”

Kinsella claims “I’m hopeful that Marc Garneau comes out.  First Canadian in space, you know, this remarkable, accomplished person…it makes it much more of a race than it is at the moment.” The Grits will choose their next boss at a convention in Ottawa next April.
