Provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has lashed out at the federal government for mismanaging the provision of power. Elected members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called a press conference on Sunday and registered their protest against WAPDA and federal government for not providing the province with their quota of electricity.

Senior PTI leaders have issued one-day deadline to the concerned authorities for reviving the power provision management plan otherwise the party will join the people of Peshawar and hold massive protests. The KP government has also warned to besiege Wapda House, Peshawar on Monday.

The statements were issued by four elected members of PTI including MPA from PK-1, Ziaullah Khan Afridi, Ishtiaq Urmar of PK-11, Javed Nasim of PK-3 and Arif Yusuf of PK-4. Chief Minister KP Pervez Khattak has sided with his party members and warned the federal government to eliminate the biased provision of national facilities.

According to the MPAs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the province generates up to 4800 megawatt electricity at the cheapest rate of 27 paisa per unit. WAPDA sells this electricity to consumers of KP at Rs 20 per unit. The alleged demand of electricity in the province is not more than 2,300 megawatt. PTI members said WAPDA has been purposely overlooking the generosity of KP and putting its people into misery.

PTI lawmakers also criticized the uncooperative attitude of Chief Executive Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco), Brigadier Tariq Saddozai. Sources claim that Saddozai has been purposely planted to mistreat the people of KP. He has been accused of challenging the provincial government that he even could not be transferred.
