In her recent remarks, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath alleged that she wants to clarify that her party’s agenda is distinguishably different from those of the Liberals and Progressive Conservatives. Horwath was criticized earlier for having some portions in her platform mirror items that were already in the Liberal budget she chose not to support, setting the stage for the June 12 election.
However, Horwath stated that it is clear to her that Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals are offering “more scandals, more broken promises and more corruption.” Whereas, the PC Leader Tim Hudak’s intends to cut approximately 100,000 public sector jobs, combined with questionable calculations in his much-touted “Million Jobs Plan,” which doesn’t make sense to her. On the other hand, Horwath boasted that the plan of the New Democrats focuses on priorities that are important for Ontarians and which require urgent addressing, like more affordable hydro rates and job creation.
Addressing reporters at a Toronto hotel a day after Tuesday’s televised leader’s debate, Horwath reiterated that the New Democrats “are in it to win it.” She elucidated that “I’m running for the job of premier, and I think that people see clearly from last night’s debate that I have no intention of supporting a plan that kills 100,000 jobs in this province, nor do I have any intention of supporting a corrupt Liberal party.” Furthermore, she added that “this election people have a clear choice. We know we can bring the change that this province deserves.”
