DGA Theater 1 (Los Angeles, CA)
After a toxic breakup with her girlfriend Maxine, newly single Shirin (played by writer-director Desiree Akhavan) desperately throws herself into the Brooklyn dating scene in hopes of finding a man or woman able to bury her resentments. But with each bust of a date, she’s forced to confront a host of real-world issues she previously ignored — including masking her bisexuality from her Iranian parents. Known for her deadpan satire, Akhavan single-handedly raises the bar for queer comedies with her uproariously clever relationship comedy that’s won her comparisons to Woody Allen and Lena Dunham. Part of Outfest 2014, the movie’s presented in English and Farsi, with English subtitles.
