Insp. Kevin Maher has confirmed that while police were performing a “routine traffic stop” in the area of Upper Middle Road and Sixth Line at around 2:15 p.m., a white SUV failed to stop for the check, which led to identification of a 32-year-old suspect wanted in the US. Maher alleged that the vehicle was located in a nearby townhouse complex, from where the male had fled on foot in the townhouse complex.
In his remarks, Maher stated that “a search of the area, as well as two different residences, has been ongoing since that time,” adding that “our Tactical Unit was involved in those searches as well as Canine Unit. We have not at this time been able to locate the party.” Anthony Maiorano is convicted for aggravated assault and robbery in Savannah, Georgia, where he was serving a 20-year prison sentence. Meanwhile, Maiorano was found to be assisted by a female who drove the vehicle and now remains in police custody. However, her citizenship and involvement in the incident remains unclear up till now.
An independent school, Nearby Rotherglen School, and the Halton District School Board’s (HDSB) Munn’s Public School, were both put in a hold and secure by police until they searched the area. Furthermore, it was also announced that the Toronto Police Service’s Fugitive Squad is now involved in the investigation. Whereas. Maher explained that “their role is to apprehend persons who are wanted that have fled other jurisdictions into our jurisdiction.”
