Los Angeles Theatre Center (Los Angeles, CA)

"Zoetrope" Part 1

This creatively-staged bilingual drama uses both live-feed video and choreographed movement to track four decades in the lives of one politically-active Puerto Rican family. The first chapter of this edgy and often funny two-part saga immerses us in a love story between Inés, an English teacher in Puerto Rico, and the seriously ill Severino, whose life is slipping away in Harlem, New York. Meanwhile, Inés, her sister and friends are preparing for an uprising against the occupying U.S. Zoetrope Part 1, written and directed by Javier Antonio González of New York’s Caborca Theatre, appears as part of the L.A. Theatre Center’s Encuento Festival. Please see the full event description for the schedule of Spanish and English performances, all of which feature supertitles.
