South Sudan, Western Bahr el Ghazal State Governor Rizik Zackaria Hassan on Friday said he was surprised by allegations levelled against him, by the rebel leadership under former vice president Dr. Riek Machar, that he was targeting the local ethnic tribes of Fertites, whom the rebels claim were supporting their rebellion in Raga county.

According to a letter dated 18 November 2014 and signed by Alfred Ladu Gore of the SPLM-in-position (SPLM IO) and read during the council of ministers meeting on Friday in Wau, the rebels claimed that Rizik Zackaria Hassan was targeting the local Fertites in Raga town and that the governor was still in dilemma to understand the on-going revolution in the Country against the current leadership under president Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The letter was supposedly written to Dr. Reik Machar by his deputy Alfred Ladu Gore on rebel’s activities in Western Bahr el Ghazal state.

The letter was read before members of security forces, members of state assembly, led by speaker Andrea Mayar Acho, and members from the ruling party SPLM along side the state cabinet ministers.
The rebel’s statement is also said to undermine Governor Rizik of still relaying after President Kiir, describing Rizik as being driven by Dinka political appellation.

“There is nothing so call Dinka politics in South Sudan; we in the current leadership are implementing the mandate of the SPLM ruling party. We cannot support any senseless war against our own people,” said Rizik in his response to the claims.

The letter has also alleged that the rebels have gained 450 new recruits mainly among the Fertites youth who “are ready to start military training in Raga town.”
Rizik dismissed rebel’s camps within the state but acknowledged some rumours of others joining the rebels.

Meanwhile, state assembly speaker Andrea Mayar Acho, called on the state governor and division five Infantry commander Maj. Gen. David Manyok to provide maximum security to the citizens against any thread.

“Our forces are always on full alert to confront any insecurity attempt by whoever thinks of waging war in Western Bahr el Ghazal state,” said Manyok.

“MPs, you also help our security to identify those who might have involved themselves in rebel activities in your constituencies.  People should not fear rebel’s propagandas”, said Manyok.
