Stephen Sondheim’s Tony-winning musical skillfully interweaves and reimagines several classic fairy tales into one epic story that goes beyond the happy endings to show what happens when a fairy-tale world gets real. This fresh twist on the Brothers Grimm brings together an ambivalent Cinderella, a temperamental Little Red Riding Hood, a rebellious Rapunzel, a naïve Jack (of beanstalk fame), a Baker, his Wife and, of course, the Witch. But this time around, the beloved storybook characters take on startling complexity as they discover that wishes come with a price.
