Egyptian Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
Catch Satoshi Kon’s Paprika, one of Time Magazine’s 25 best animated films of all time, on the beautiful big screen at Hollywood’s Egyptian Theatre, courtesy of American Cinematheque. Another Kon classic, Tokyo Godfathers, takes the second spot for this double feature of Japanese anime, spotlighting works by the acclaimed director whose life and career were cut tragically short by pancreatic cancer in 2010. 06’s fantasy Paprika explores the relationship between dreams and reality, when a research psychologist begins using an experimental device to enter her patients’ subconscious reveries, while the ’03 Tokyo Godfathers is a more down-to-earth tale about a trio of homeless people who find an abandoned newborn on Christmas Eve.
