Marlies Add Wilson, Engel, Caruana and Acton for upcoming season

Dave Nonis, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has re-signed forward Matt Caruana and defenceman Josh Engel. In addition, the club has signed free agent forwards Will Acton and Kelsey Wilson.

Wilson, 24, played in 74 games last season with the Milwaukee Admirals, collecting 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) to go along with 145 penalty minutes. The 6’1, 210-pound left winger posted eight points (one goal, seven assists) in nine games with the Admirals in the 2010-11 Calder Cup playoffs. The Sault Ste. Marie, ON native has appeared in 294 career AHL games, collecting 92 points (42 goals, 50 assists) with 699 penalty minutes.

Engel, 26, played in 70 games with the Toronto Marlies last season, collecting 11 goals and eight assists. Four of his 11 goals were game-winning tallies, ranking second best on the team. The Rice Lake, WI native has skated in 168 games with the Marlies over the past three seasons, recording 16 goals and 25 assists.

Caruana, 25, played in 33 games with the Marlies last season, collecting 10 points (six goals, four assists). The Orono, ON native also appeared in 34 games with the Reading Royals (ECHL), registering 34 points (18 goals, 16 assists). The 6’0, 175-pound centre potted four goals and added an assist in eight playoff games with the Royals last season.

Acton, 23, played in 34 games last season with the Lake Superior State Lakers (NCAA), recording nine goals and 15 assists. The Stouffville, ON native appeared in five games with the Marlies and made his AHL debut on March 26 vs. Lake Erie.
