State officials told Gurtong that the firm, Epic Exploration, has expressed previous intentions to tap on the underutilised resources in the vast region.
The State Minister of Commerce, Investment, Industry and MiningLorika Stella Brenda said the Central Government in Juba will assume overall responsibility of managing the venture.
“Once the company is given the concession by the National Government, the state government will facilitate a series of consultations alongside host communities as the exploration gets underway”, she said.
She clarified that the MOU sets out guidelines for future negotiations on mineral exploration in the state and will remain in force for twelve months.
The firm signed the MoU with the State Ministry of Commerce, Investment, Industry and Mining, which was represented byacting Director General’s Mario Grant Lochom and witnessed by the Director General of the State Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
