Police find body of missing woman in Goldstream River, BC

UPDATE:

On July 2, 2011 at 1:09 p.m. West Shore RCMP were called to attend the Goldstream River near the Goldstream Provinical Park as a body had been located in the river. A female who had been camping at Goldstream Provincial Park had been reported missing at 10:06 a.m. that morning.

Due to the terrain the RCMP Dive Team was called in and retrieved the body. The deceased has been identified as Sooke resident, Amanda Lee Langford, 34 years old.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday in Vancouver to determine a cause of death. The investigation remains active with resources from the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, West Shore RCMP, and RCMP Forensic Identification Section following up on the victims actions from the time she arrived at the campsite until she was located in the water. The Goldstream Provinical Park remains open to campers.

Background:

Langford – July 2, 2011 a 34yr old female was camping at Goldstream Park and reported missing at 1006hrs. At 1309hrs her body was found in Goldstream River. Langford Fire and Rescue attended but could not access the female. RCMP dive team was called and retrieved the body. The cause of death is not known. West Shore RCMP are working with B.C. Coroner service, Vancouver Island Major Crime Unit, Victoria Police Dog Section, and Victoria RCMP Forensic Identification Section. All necessary resources are being utilized to determine the victims actions since arriving at the campsite. The scene is being secured until an autopsy is performed, which is scheduled for Wednesday. The campground remains open with limited impact to other campers.

Staff Sergeant Danny WILLIS advises that, “ all deaths of unknown cause are considered serious investigations and given maximum attention.”

Anyone who heard or saw anything unusual in the campground Friday night or Saturday morning are asked to call West Shore RCMP
