In Bharatpur on Wednesday at least nine people were killed in an armed dispute that also left 10 injured, mostly with gunfire wounds, police reported.
This deadly clash erupted on Wednesday morning when leading members of Gujjar and Muslim communities faced each other for a land related issue. According to the sources, these were two leading communities in the area. They threw stones and exchanged fire which caused unrest in the area.
"There was a dispute about a piece of public land in the village. The land was being claimed for a burial centre by one group while the opposing group wanted it for constructing a pond," a police officer said.
The authorities are trying their best to bring peace in the area as additional forces have been called in from Jaipur and nearby districts to bring law and order, Krishna Kunal, DC (Director Controller) said, as he also added, “As per primary information, they were killed in firing. Heavy deployment of force has already been done and additional forces have been called in”.
Curfew was imposed on Pahadi, Jurera, Gopalgarh, Kaman, Sikri and Nagar areas of the district, the sources reported.
The alleged incorrect entry of land meant for digging a pond as graveyard in government records by a local patwari was the cause of the dispute, the police reported.
A high level meeting has been called for to review the situation by Chief Minister Ashock Gehlot.
