Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, QC) and Filip Peliwo (Vancouver, BC) booked their places in the semifinals of the junior Australian Open on Thursday in Melbourne, Australia.
Ranked no. 3 on the ITF World Junior Rankings and seeded second in the tournament, Bouchard defeated Risa Ozaki of Japan 6-4, 6-3 to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open for the second consecutive year. She will attempt to advance to her first junior Grand Slam singles final after winning the Wimbledon junior doubles title in 2011. Bouchard will take on fourth-seeded Yulia Putintseva of Russia in the semifinals.
Peliwo continued his winning streak after capturing the biggest singles title of his young career last week in Traralgon. He joined his compatriot in the semifinals thanks to a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Joshua Ward-Hibbert of Great Britain. Currently sitting at a career-high of no. 7 on the world junior rankings, Peliwo will meet American Mackenzie McDonald in the final four.
