South Africa Declines Its Right to Host
Canadian tennis fans will have the chance to support their Davis Cup team on home soil this September as their Davis Cup play-off opponent, South Africa, who had been awarded “choice of ground” in a draw, elected to play in Canada.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to play in front of a home crowd for this important match-up,” said Davis Cup Captain Martin Laurendeau.
“Fan support is a major advantage in Davis Cup ties and we know that with the recent rise of popularity of tennis in our country, we’ll have great support.”
Canada is now exploring options for a host location throughout the country for the Davis Cup World Group play-off to be held on Sept. 14-16. The winner of the tie will qualify for the WorldGroup in 2013 while the losing team will return to its respective zone.
