Around 150 holidaymakers have been rescued from a flooded riverside caravan park Borth, near the seaside town of Aberystwyth, today after severe floods hit west Wales.
Evacuation process has also been carried out in the twenty-five homes in the nearby village of Talybont and families were provided with sheltering in a community centre and pub.
A major rescue operation involving fire crews, coastguard lifeboats and Royal Air Force Sea King helicopters, was launched in the early hours of this morning.
A crew from Royal National Lifeboat Institution helping with the evacuation had to be airlifted for their own safety purposes while they were helping to pluck a disabled man from a flooded caravan because a Royal Air Force (RAF) helicopter was 20 minutes flying time distance.
The four-man crew were lifted to dry land by the RAF crew, who also rescued two teenage girls whose caravan had become cut off and a family of three who had climbed on top of their trailer to escape the rising waters at the Riverside Caravan Park in Llandre.
Dyfed-Powys Police has told that three people have suffered minor injuries and needed treatment.
The flood alarm was raised in the early hours after more than five inches of rain fell in 24 hours. Environment Agency Wales has five flood warnings in place for the Teifi at Lampeter and Llanybydder, the Dyfi Valley and Machynlleth, the Ystwyth at Rhydyfelin and Llanfarian, the Rheidol at Aberystwyth and the River Clarach at Llangorwen.
