Ford Amphitheatre (Hollywood, CA)
Come experience the rhythm of the night at the open-air Ford Amphitheatre as percussion ensembles from across the city of Los Angeles gather for a festival featuring the vast variety of drum sounds from both Eastern and Western cultures — sometimes even appearing in the same group. For example, East LA Taiko melds Latin and Afro-Cuban rhythms with the sonorous beat of the traditional Japanese taiko drum; CAVA blends bolero and tropical on taiko and cajón — the Peruvian box drum; and Atabey adds dancing to the mix in their Puerto Rican bomba performances. More groups, including those with West African and Aztec influences, are soon to be added to the bill as well, for an outdoor concert revealing the true heartbeat of L.A.
