"The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp"

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents the West Coast premiere of the newly restored, full-length version of British masterpiece The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp. Beloved by the likes of Martin Scorsese and critic Dave Kehr (who called it “possibly the finest film ever made in Britain”), Blimp was released in Great Britain in 1943, but did not reach the States until 1945, where its running time was cut by nearly half. Controversial, epic and deeply personal, it follows the 40-year career of a British Army officer from the Boer War to World War II. Roger Livesey and Deborah Kerr star in the film, which was created and helmed by the acclaimed team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. For this special showing at the world-class Samuel Goldwyn Theater, three-time Oscar-winning film editor (and widow to Powell) Thelma Schoonmaker will introduce the screening.
