The presumptive Republican candidate for the US presidency, Mitt Romney, has appeared to question London’s readiness to host the Olympics and the British people’s enthusiasm for the Games.
The Prime Minister, David Cameron has responded to Mr. Romney’s doubts that he would tell the Republican nominee in person that London 2012 is well-organised and set to be celebrated by people across Britain.
The former Massachusetts governor, who arrived in London on Wednesday night, has been hoping to use his trip to the U.K., Israel and Poland to demonstrate broader qualities of leadership and make an effort to switch attention from headlines about his tax affairs, his personal wealth and his business record.
However, Mr. Romney has stated regarding Olympic security issues and the error over the North Korean team flag: “It is impossible for absolutely no mistakes to occur. Of course there will be errors from time to time, but those are all overshadowed by the extraordinary demonstrations of courage, character and determination by the athletes. The Games are, after all, about the athletes, the volunteers and the people of the community who come together to celebrate those athletes. As soon as the Games begin, we all forget the organisers and focus on the athletes.”
