Eddies hoping to build off Saturday’s draw with 2011 Champs

FC Edmonton is coming off a hard fought draw with 2011 Champs Minnesota Stars FC on Saturday night.

On Wednesday evening 2012 league leaders San Antonio Scorpions are coming to Clarke and the Eddies are looking to upset the visitors and to begin a push for the playoffs.

FC Edmonton is currently in seventh place, one spot out of the sixth and final playoff position and the Scorpions are coming to town in the middle of a three-game home stretch.

In its final nine games, FC Edmonton will play six at home and just three on the road.

Captain Chris Kooy said playing at home is an advantage the team has to take advantage of.

“We got one point from our first game (against the Stars) on Saturday night but San Antonio are the league leaders so we’re going to have to battle to get all three points tomorrow night.”

San Antonio has enjoyed plenty of success in its inaugural NASL season. In their last five games the Scorpions have played to 2-1-2 record, including an 8-0 drubbing of the Carolina RailHawks.

The Scorpions recently added MLS all-time leading goal scorer Jeff Cunningham to the line-up and Pablo Campos continues to score goals for the first-year squad.

The Eddies have a win, loss and draw in their last three games and are hoping to find some offense on Wednesday evening against the Scorpions. A win would move the team within five points of the sixth place RailHawks but the ‘Hawks would have a game in hand. The Fort Lauderdale Strikers sit in fifth spot but have played two more games than the Eddies who are 10 points back.
