The Ministry of Social Services provided $268,000 toward the construction of the new group home which will serve individuals on the main floor. Saskatchewan Housing Corporation provided $70,000 for the development of the basement suites. The suites will be home to low- and moderate-income people with intellectual disabilities who are ready to move into independent living accommodation, but are in need of occasional supports.
"Our government remains committed to making positive things happen for people with intellectual disabilities and their families," Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation Donna Harpauer said. "This project will make a difference in the lives of the people who will now have a safe, affordable, quality place to live that meets their needs."
"Today Chip and Dale Housing Inc. opens their tenth group home, which will provide residential services for four individuals," Chip and Dale Housing Inc. Executive Director Lucy Mazden said. "Chip and Dale Housing Inc. is very pleased to have this partnership opportunity to increase housing options for adults with intellectual disabilities."
"The City of Regina is pleased to have provided a $20,000 capital contribution for the development of these two independent living suites," Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco said. "Regina’s City Council is committed to supporting safe, reliable affordable housing projects to improve living conditions and quality of life for Regina residents."
Operating in Regina since 1980, Chip and Dale develops and manages residential services for adults with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. The Ministry of Social Services provides ongoing funding to Chip and Dale for operation of their group home program.
