Lawyer of embattled Toronto Mayor’s Rob Ford has harshly condemned a previous judgment ordering him to leave office within few days. Alan Lenczner made several direct arguments in front of the three-judge appeal panel in attempt of securing the Mayor’s office for Rob Ford.

Along with many other issues, the lawyer pointed out that council did not have the authority of ordering Ford to repay the money he sought for his private football foundation. Hence Ford cannot, and should have not been, held accountable for participating in the voting process on whether he should have paid up or not. Previously in November, a court ruling announced  by Ontario Superior Court Justice Charles Hackland declared that Ford has violated conflict of interest laws, opposing to which Lenczner highlighted that Hackland admitted during the case that Ford had not received the money personally since there was no dispute of corruption. The matter at hand was, rather, his mere participation in the voting process. Hence he alleged that legal options for council was to either reprimand Ford or force him pay.

Lenczner was attempting to imply that Hackland’s judgement was “completely out of context.” Later he directly criticized Hackland decision, alleging that he misread an earlier ruling which relied in deciding he had no choice but to remove Ford from office. Lenczner  retorted that “he took it completely out of context” alleging that “Conflict we all understand” but “Conduct is quite something else.”
