Trade unions again announce the strike of ground staff KLM
The ground staff of KLM wants to stop again. The intention is that they will put down the work for 8 hours next Wednesday. The CNV and FNV trade unions announce this.
In the first instance, the ground staff wanted to stop on Saturday. KLM successfully went to court last week for this stop. The judge mentioned a strike that day irresponsible because of the holiday pressure and the aftermath of NATO top.
The trade unions now have every confidence that the strike can continue. “Based on the passenger figures that we have claimed at Schiphol and KLM and the agreements we made in the safety consultation, we are convinced that this strike can take place in a safe way,” says CNV negotiator Souleiman Amallah.
Back to court
KLM says in a response that it is considering going to court again to prevent the strike. The airline says it is disappointed in the unions, because KLM still offered on Friday to increase the salaries of the ground staff.
The trade unions and KLM have not been able to agree on a new collective agreement for a while. Previously, KLM said that it could not increase wages because of the financial situation of the company. KLM then did a moral appeal to the ground staff not to stop.
The trade unions do not agree with this. They think it is important that the purchasing power of the staff is preserved. The company did not announce how much KLM wants to increase wages in a press release.
What will be the impact of the strike is not yet clear. The holiday period has already started and so it is busy at Schiphol.
