We have a hard enough time getting our beauty acts together when the temperature isn’t a bazillion degrees, so summer primping poses some major issues for us. Sweat, frizz, humidity, more sweat — how’s a girl supposed to keep her cool? Our usual primping products just can’t stand up to summer’s blistering temps, which leaves us looking wilted, melted, and the epitome of a hot mess.

Fortunately, there’s a slew of new beauty goodies hitting shelves right now aimed at helping us survive the swelter. From a mascara that won’t melt off to a hair potion that promises to give you surfer-girl waves, we’ve rounded up the 10 new beauty essentials you need to conquer summer in style. Read on to find out how we’ll be looking fly (and avoiding getting fried) this season.

This baked and pressed eyeshadow palette features three distinct hues, blended together to create myriad color options. The swirling shades look like a beautiful watercolor painting, and — unlike most multi-color eye palettes — we can actually see ourselves using each and every one of the shades. Did we mention how pretty it is?

Listen, sunscreen is non-negotiable (have you seen the latest melanoma stats?), but just because you have to SPF up doesn’t mean you’re resigned to a summer of looking and feeling like a greasy French fry. This new sunscreen mist from Supergoop! provides broad-spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays, absorbs instantly, helps hydrate the skin (thanks to an antioxidant-rich formula), and won’t leave behind a gross residue. Just be sure to reapply it every 80 minutes, after swimming or sweating — we anticipate doing a lot of those things in the upcoming months, so we plan on buying this in bulk.

There’s nothing we love more in the summer than a vibrant lip, but a thick, matte lipstick is the last thing we want coating our pouts in triple-digit temps. Dior’s Jelly Lip Pen delivers super-saturated color and mega-watt shine, but in the lightweight, hydrating texture of a balm. So, we get our bright-lip fix, and our mouths don’t have to suffer under layers of thick product. Win-win.

There are plenty of fun, summery hues to bedeck your nails with this summer, so much so that we couldn’t choose just one to highlight as essential — we don’t like to limit ourselves. Instead, we’re suggesting you get your mitts on this cool topcoat from RGB and celebrity manicurist Jenna Hipp. The Highlight polish can be used in multiple ways to bring out the best in your lacquer. Use it on bare nails to add a pearl-like glow, layer it on over another polish to refresh your manicure and add a dewy effect, or paint a strip of it down the center of your nails to “diffuse imperfections and add depth and contour for any skin tone.” Yes, please!

HippxRGB Highlight $18, available in June at Net-a-Porter.

We can’t say we’ve ever had a desire to experience taffy in our hair (sounds messy), but this new texturizer from Ouidad has us reconsidering. Ideal for straight hair or those with slightly wavy locks, the elastic styling balm can help you mold your hair into beach-ready waves in no time. Enriched with vitamins and minerals, it has enough hold to texturize your ‘do, but won’t leave behind a sticky, stiff residue — because we want naturally tousled strands this summer, not a starched-in-place, helmet-head coiff.

Ouidad Wave Create Texture Taffy, $23, available at Ouidad.

Hard to believe, but this new BB cream-like moisturizer from Perricone MD represents the first time the celeb derm has launched a product in the SPF category. Lightweight and infused with Dr. Perricone’s beloved vitamin C ester and alpha lipoic acid —plus astaxanthin, a natural anti-inflammatory — this moisturizer, treatment, and sunscreen in one has broad-spectrum protection against damaging UV rays, as well as protection from the 10 most common skin aggressors. Best of all, its smooth, oil-free texture means it won’t leave behind the tackiness that many other SPF moisturizers suffer from, and it acts as a natural primer to help keep your makeup in place. Overachieve much?

Yes, we know the name is a little silly, but our love for The Rocket mascara just will not die. That’s because this super-creamy fringe enhancer really does coat every last lash for supernatural volume. And, it’s now available in a waterproof formula, meaning we can get those pumped-up lashes we love, without fear that we’ll morph into The Crow the minute we step outside.

Maybelline Volum’Express The Rocket Waterproof Mascara, $7.99, available at Ulta.

We admit we were a little skeptical of this one at first — a lotion and hair treatment in one? Yeah, right — but after trying it out, we have to say, we are total converts. The bronze-tinted cream hydrates your skin and gives you a subtle glow, and, when applied to your hair, the sun’s rays activate a deep-conditioning treatment that helps repair fried strands.

Aerin Beach Cream, $45, available at Aerin.

We cried sad tears of inconsolable grief when Bobbi Brown discontinued her amazing Sheer Color Cheek Tint a few years ago. The handy sticks kissed our cheeks with a perfect amount of sheer color that made our visage look naturally flushed and radiant. Well, we can finally dry our eyes, because she’s just re-released three limited-edition shades in her new Nude Beach collection. We’re partial to the Sunlit Nude shade because it provides just the right balance of bronze and pink. Swipe it on your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, and above your brows, then blend outwards to create the perfect faux glow. Bobbi, if you’re reading this, do us a solid and bring back the tints as permanent products, pretty please?

Frizz is the bane of almost every girl’s existence in the swampy summer months. Nothing can sabotage a sleek coiff faster than a gust of muggy air — hello, poufy ‘do. Unfortunately, most smoothing serums are formulated with silicone and oils, which build up on the hair shaft over time and cause your mane to look lackluster, or leave behind a greasy slick on your strands. That’s why we’re stoked for Living Proof’s latest high-tech launch — an oil-free and silicone-free smoother that promises to tame your wayward mane without all the weighed-down, gunked-up side effects. Jennifer Aniston, the brand’s new co-owner, is a big fan of Satin, claiming, “It makes getting that smooth look so easy, which I love because I don’t want to spend a ton of time on my hair.” Preach, sister.

Living Proof Style Lab Satin Hair Serum, $29, available at Sephora.
