Toronto VeloReel announces it will take place October 5th in Liberty Village, at the Bike-In Theater located at the south end of Fraser Avenue. This years line-up includes exciting films such as Bike Lordz, a documentary on the self-taught, self-invented bicycle in Accra Ghana, dramatic shorts such as Lost Bike Girl from New York City, and street race videos from Torontos own celebrity photographer Steve Carty. A different type of film festival, Toronto VeloReel is a DIY event, free of box-office nightmares and shallow movie premier parties. Family and friend focused, Toronto VeloReel is only $5 for entry. Festival goers are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks, along with blankets and items to share and play with the audience. Running from 7pm-9pm, this is the perfect opening event to start off Nuit Blanche for those seeing the city by bike that night, or a great place to stop to meet with friends, or enjoy a snack or make a toast before continuing on with the night. Free popcorn will be served. This unofficial cycling event ties in nicely with this years Nuit Blanche celebration of centenary of Bicycle Wheel, Marcel Duchamp’s first readymade, and the many other bicycle themed exhibits taking place such as Forever Bicycles by Ai Weiwei. Torontos all-girl Midnight Bike Gang/Arts Collective The Deadly Nightshades are curating the festivals selection of films. The reel is currently being finalized, and exciting updates and announcements will be made in the upcoming weeks.
