The AAP government has asked the anti-corruption bureau to file a First Information Report against the former chief minister Sheila Dikshit for her alleged role in the 2010 Commonwealth Games Scam. The Commonwealth Games took part in the capital of India, Delhi. After taking power in December, Arvind Kejriwal vowed to expose all corruption done by the former Chief Minsiter Sheila Dikshit. He has told the anti-corruption bureau to investigate the case involving Dikshit purchasing street lightening at inflated prices.
On February 3, the Aam Aadmi Party government had also written to the President of India asking an investigation into the manner in which the Congress chief minister authorized illegal colonies in 2008. ‘We will ensure thorough investigation of all cases of corruption in CWG projects,’ said the Law Minister Somnath Bharti. The reports on the streetlighting scam surfaced in the investigations conducted by the national auditor, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), as well as the the Shunglu Committee after looking into details of the event expenses. Dikshit was blamed for a loss of Rs. 31 crore to the exchequer by deciding to use imported lightening brought at a higher rate than the market price.
Kejriwal said earlier that he had proof of corruption that took place during the Commonwealth Games held in Delhi. He had made a report built on proof but no name was mentioned in it. ‘In November 2010, I had prepared a 370-page report on the CWG scam which contains evidence on corrupt practices during CWG. It doesn’t mention any names. It was based on newspaper reports,’ said Arvind Kejriwal.
