"Flyin' West"

Flyin’ West is Atlanta playwright Pearl Cleage’s critically praised true story of four female former slaves who travel from the South to the West after the Civil War in search of a better life. This incredible, lesser-known slice of American history examines this small group of black women who settled the first all-black town of Nicodemus, Kansas in the late 1800s. Overcoming tremendous odds, they brave the untamed frontier, brutal winters and other challenges to build this town that’s a historic national landmark today.
