This Wednesday morning the military and the civilian leadership both joined hands to review Karachi’s law-and-order situation at a high-level meeting in the city where key decisions were taken with regard to the ongoing operation in Karachi.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in the city earlier to conduct the meeting combined with the former president of Pakistan. The meeting was conducted at the Governor House. Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif, heads of Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, Corps Commander Karachi, Director General Rangers and Inspector General of Police Sindh were briefing the meeting. Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan were also present to give their experienced input.

While chairing a high level meeting to review law and order in the city, the the Prime Minister said that no political pressure would be tolerated in the operation.“Restoration of peace in Karachi is the first priority of government”, he said. This is the first time that Army Chief is attending such a high-level meeting with civilian leadership on the issue of unrest in Karachi. Apart from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chief, MQM representatives and ANP leader Shahi Syed also arrived at the Governor House to join the meeting. Source have informed that the premier was briefed about progress in ongoing targeted operation carried out by police and Rangers. “They are likely to give a new direction to this operation. We are expecting some key decisions which may bring relief for the citizens,” sources said.
