Hollywood Bowl (Hollywood, CA)
Grammy-winning, Oscar-nominated violinist Hilary Hahn brings her passionate, inventive approach to bear as she joins Los Angeles Philharmonic principal cellist Robert deMaine to delve into Brahms’ momentous Double Concerto. Brahms’ final work for orchestra, the Double Concerto was written as a gesture of reconciliation for the composer’s estranged friend, the violinist Joseph Joachim, and was said by critic Donald Tovey to require “two brilliant and equally matched soloists.” With her distinct approach to the instrument, Hahn has received every critical prize in the international press for her recordings, all of which have debuted in the top ten of the Billboard classical chart. Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (“Titan”) completes the program, with which young Lithuanian conductor Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla makes her Bowl debut.
