Westchester Playhouse (Los Angeles, CA)

"Orphans"

Normally you’d thinking kidnapping a powerful mobster would be the kind of idea that might get you killed. (And you’d be right.) But when orphaned brothers Treat and Phillip kidnap a mobster, they’re faced with a kind of threat they hadn’t anticipated: emotional danger. Their prisoner reverses the power dynamic and establishes himself as an unlikely father figure. This testosterone-fueled drama melds realism and absurdity in a way that’s both wickedly funny and emotionally stirring. If you missed Alec Baldwin in the Tony-nominated Broadway revival of Orphans last year, do the next best thing and see it at the Westchester Playhouse with actors Raúl Bencomo, Jeff Cheezum and Karl Schott. Kathy Dershimer directs this dynamic and emotionally charged production for the Kentwood Players.
