Four Men Caught with Fraudulent Credit Cards in Oshawa

An alert store security officer in Oshawa is being credited with the arrest of four fraud suspects tried to purchase merchandise using fraudulent credit cards.

On Saturday, November 6, 2010 just after 9 p.m., officers were called to the Wal-Mart store on Harmony Road North in Oshawa regarding fraudulent credit card suspects. An alert security guard contacted police after the suspects tried to use the cards to purchase about $900 in electronic products. Officers apprehended the four suspects in a vehicle a short distance from the store. The males were found to be in possession of five counterfeit credit cards encoded with stolen credit card data and three partially-completed credit cards encoded with stolen debit card data. Police also located $700.00 in gift cards which had been purchased by the suspects at another retail store using the counterfeit credit cards.

John AGULTO, age 20 of Thornhill; Pratheep THARMALINGAM, age 19 of Toronto; Pranaven RATNASABAPATHY, age 18, of Toronto; and Sameer CHISHTI, age 20 of Toronto are charged with: Fraud Over $5000; Conspiracy to Commit and Indictable Offence; Possession of Proceeds of Crime; Unlawful Possession of Credit Card Data x3; Possess Credit Card Obtained By Crime x3 and other fraud-related charges.
