The continue cycle of communal revenge attacks in Lakes state among the communities is worrying and disturbing. In strong terms CEPO condemned all acts of revenge attacking and the killing of citizens among the communities of Lakes state. CEPO recognized that numerous initiatives by several actors for resolving the communal violent fighting among Lakes state communities were tried all in vain. With independent confirmation, CEPO realized that the cycle of violence in Lakes state is political motivated due to the local politics within the state.

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization-CEPO said, in strong terms, CEPO is calling upon the representatives of Lakes state in the national parliament to take the situation of the violent fighting among the state communities serious during their recess period. This three months recess period, Honorable parliamentarians from Lakes state should do something on the cycle of the violence among the communities. It is too much that citizens are losing lives in lakes state at rate of at least over 10 citizens killed per month. In same manner, CEPO is demanding the council of states to take serious steps for finding solution for the cycle of the violence among the communities of lakes state. The silence of the council of states on the situation of Lakes state is not encouraging and it is demonstrating that council of states is not playing its expected responsibilities and duties stipulated by the transitional constitution of South Sudan, 2011 article 59 (f) stated Council of States “legislate for the promotion of a culture of peace, reconciliation and communal harmony among all the people of the states” Yakani added

Last resort for CEPO to ensure that national parliamentarians from Lakes state constituencies and council of states take the situation of Lakes state serious. CEPO will be obligated to question them in competent court of law within South Sudan o why they national parliamentarian from Lakes states and council of states are unable to be resolved by them. This is constitutional right of CEPO as entity composes of South Sudanese. It was stipulated in Transitional Constitutional article 20 “The right to litigation shall be guaranteed for all persons; no person shall be denied the right to resort to courts of law to redress grievances whether against government or any individual or organization” Yakani stressed. Finally, CEPO is calling upon the leadership of the country to response urgently to the situation the communities of Lakes state are facing now. The cycle of the revenge attacks among the communities that is claiming lives of citizens should be stop immediately
