Highways Performance Space and Gallery (Santa Monica, CA)
Orson Welles made history and scared the daylights out of America with his 1938 radio drama of H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds. Now you can travel back to that radio studio and relive the live sound effects and paper-shuffling of a near-forgotten art form in this contemporary adaptation made to be relevant to the present-day water issues between Owens Valley and Los Angeles. Lauren Bon and the Metabolic Studio’s IOU Theatre presented the work monthly in Lone Pine, Calif. throughout 2014, and for the first time will bring their troupe of performers from the Owens Valley to Los Angeles as an act of reconciliation for the water Los Angeles exports from the far-off region.
