Groundswell Unplugged is a 6 day event spotlighting plays in development from some of Canada’s most exciting female playwrights and emerging writers. Groundswell Unplugged is a Nightwood Theatre production.

Headlining the event – a workshop production of Diane Flacks’ new play Unholy, directed by Kelly Thornton. Provocative and hilarious – this battle of wits is set in a fictional live public debate that asks “should women abandon religion?” As the panellists face off, passions and personal stories abound.

The Groundswell Reading Series features Trident Moon – a piece by Nightwood’s Playwright in Residence Anusree Roy that delves into the 1947 partition of Hindustan. We’ll also hear new work by our 2014/15 Write From the Hip playwrights: Heather Debling, Hilary Rexe, Pearl Chan and Rose Napoli. Write from the Hip is a year-log script development program designed to support new writers toward the completion of a full length play.

Come support works by female playwrights from the ground up.
