Unions have decided to call 30th November as the “National day of Action” to begin their strike against UK government’s decision regarding changes in pension plans.
There is a continuing talks going on in between the Unions and the government over pension contribution reforms since the beginning of the year. The ministers are saying that the change scheduled for next April is required to develop schemes sustainable in the face of an ageing population. When on Wednesday, the TUC voted collectively in favor of action against the move as its annual conference came to an end. After this, 24 union leaders held a meeting where action date was chosen to be 30th November.
The TUC boss, Brendan Barber has recommended ministers to agree upon the demands of the union to avoid this deadlock. Barber is of the view that if no efforts from the government will be evidenced to resolve this matter then they will witness a widespread industrial action across the public services. There is an absolute commitment to provide justice to the millions of workers and this will be proved by the 3 million workers from 20 unions and their commitment to take part in the strike by doing stoppages, meetings, rallies and joint events with community groups. However, Union leaders will hold another meeting at the end of September to coordinate their plan of action. On the other hand, the government is persistently calling it an irresponsible action and absolute wastage of time by the union people.
