The 2012 NBA All-Star Ballot was unveiled today during a special tip-off event in Orlando, the Official Host City of NBA All-Star 2012. Named on the ballot are Toronto Raptors centre Andrea Bargnani, guard DeMar DeRozan and guard Jose Calderon.
NBA All-Star Balloting presented by Sprint began at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The 61st NBA All-Star Game will be played at Amway Center on Sunday, February 26, 2012.
Bargnani is making his third appearance on the All-Star ballot for Toronto. He is currently ranked seventh in NBA scoring with 22.6 points per game and leads the team with a .519 (42-for-81) field goal shooting percentage. Bargnani, the first overall selection in the 2006 NBA Draft, started twice in the TMobile Rookie-Sophomore Game at All-Star Weekend in 2007 and 2008. Last season Bargnani posted a career-best 21.4 points in 66 games.
Calderon returns to the ballot for the third time in his career. Calderon recently became the first Raptor to record 3,000 career assists during a game January 1 at Orlando. He ranks third in the NBA with 9.8 assists per game and leads the team with two double-doubles.
DeRozan makes his second appearance on the All-Star ballot after posting a career-high 17.2 points per game last season. He became the fourth player in team history to start all 82 games and finished third in scoring among all sophomore players. DeRozan represented Toronto at All-Star Weekend last year in Los Angeles, participating in the Rookie-Sophomore game and the Slam Dunk. DeRozan currently ranks second in team scoring this season with 17.2 points per game.
The NBA All-Star ballot lists 120 players – 60 each from the Eastern and Western conferences – with 24 guards, 24 forwards, and 12 centres from each conference comprising the list. Voters select two guards, two forwards and one centre from each conference.
The 120 players on the ballot were selected by a panel of media who regularly cover the NBA: Bill Simmons (Grantland), Sekou Smith (NBA.com), Doug Smith (Toronto Star/PBWA), and Ian Thomsen (Sports Illustrated).
